Shirley Woodcock-Kolb
began silversmithing at the age of fourteen when she signed up for a metalsmith class in junior high. As luck would have it, she stuck with the class and found her true vocation. Inspired by other local metalsmiths, Shirley continued to learn on her own, often experimenting with untried techniques that would lay the foundation for her truly extraordinary jewelry style. In 1978, she was proud to receive a B.A. degree from Suny Oswego, specializing in silversmithing. Since then, she has continued to expand her jewelry making techniques to include ceramics, precious and semi-precious gems, and dichroic glass.
Shirley has won numerous awards including Court of Honor Upstate Fine Arts and Crafts Show, 1st Place Downtown Syracuse in Metals, and 1st Place in NYS Fair in Fused Glass.
Shirley is also a professional jazz singer and guitarist. She enjoys traveling, riding her horses, and antique motorcycle shows. She continues to live in rural New York in an 1850's General Store with her husband, Larry Kolb.
